Ann is interested in teaching students
to see fiber as the vehicle for their communication.
Knitting utilizes the vocabularies of surface design
and weaving.
It is a language of pattern, a language of color, or
hand, of surface. That is what Ann focuses on, that
the technical aspects support those conversations. The
actual training is very specific and methodical but not
the point – merely the vehicle.
The
program at Syracuse University offers a BFA and MFA
in Fibers. The program is studio arts based. They offer
a full curriculum in Weaving, Fibers and Dyes and Off
Loom construction.
